"Ligon" has several meanings depending on language and context, Old French meaning spade, Welch meaning marsh, Polish for one who 'kicks up a fuss', Spanish for a flirt or player (from 'Ligar' to flirt/hook  up), Spanish for hoe, in legal English, a jettisoned ship's cargo.

Today, Ligonia is an industrial area in South Portland, Maine, that was once a beautiful lagoon.
